What is a Shopping Cart?
Shopping Cart is a software application that runs on the server where your website is hosted or located. This server is called as Web Server which allows your cutomers to select a product from your product catalog, adding or selecting a specific product to a basket and placing an order for it. The shopping Cart integrates with your website and they are typically links on your webpages that customer need to click on and allow them to search for products located in your database. Many Ecommerce websites have serach box on their website as a part of navigation area. This serach feature is provided by the shopping cart script or software.

There are few programming languages which provide full access source code allowing experienced programmers to make modifications in system features of shopping cart. Some shopping carts run on Linux Servers, some on windows servers and few run on both the platform.
