Which version of Norton Ghost? IIRC, I had problems with Ghost 8.0, especially in it recognising USB drives and possibly that it was difficult to create a bootable CD, but to be honest I no longer remember having to restore an image to discover whether it worked in anger! I still have Ghost 9.0 installed on one PC but again, have not tried it to restore an image — sorry! Now I'm even more pleased I switched to Acronis TrueImage ...
Acronis is a great product, not horrendously expensive and it really does work — I've used it with Windows 2003 Server and Windows Small Business Server 2003, booting up from a CD and using it in its graphical DOS shell (never tried installing it on either of those platforms, but it's great in Windows XP). Anyway, it's been used in anger on production machinery and does restores a whole lot faster than using Microsoft's preferred methods or re-installing their OSs and then from tape backups.
If you plan to discuss this at length I suggest you start a new thread, or ask Mark to split this discussion to a new thread.
