Question Dedicated SSL on "Linux Hosting Packages"

Dear all,

I'm trying to make sense of how dedicated SSL would work on a Linux Hosting Package and instead of submitting endless emails to the support guys I thought I'd ask here.

So far I have been able to gather the following:
  • Dedicated SSL requires a dedicated IP address for £20 per year.
  • I have this option upon purchase.
  • I should then be able to use an SSL certificate.

Here are my questions:
  • What do I do with my certificate.cer / cert.crt files? Do I upload these to cpanel?
  • Will subdomains have ssl too? I would have expected another certificate would be needed, how would I add this?
  • Would this require a dedicated IP too?
  • Will all pages that are available under http be available for https?
  • Is it possible as it is on IIS Web Server to restrict some pages to SSL only via the server? The workaround for this would be a PHP script, just enquiring.

Basically I'm trying to understand if something like https://login.mysitename.co.uk is possible as well as https://www.mysitename.co.uk and what the requirements are to set this up. Also, if I use dedicated SSL can I submit any certificate including temporary ones generated with OpenSSL for testing purposes?

Thanks for your time, anything you can provide to explain how this works would be great, I couldn't find an SSL option for cpanel in your (excellent) flash tutorials hence the need to ask.

Any help would be great,

Antony
