It's impossible to tell what the problem is (and therefore how to fix it) as it can be caused by so many things. Don't forget, if you save them to the desktop and don't want to keep them after viewing them you can send them to the recycle bin.
It is a quick and easy work around to your problem, probably the quickest. Without looking at your computer or knowing the circumstances of how it arose there is no easy solution to it.
You could reinstall your operating system if you want?
