You don't seem to be attracting any answers — my thoughts on this are that I don't understand enough of the detail of what you're using and the purpose of what you're trying to do? I presume this folder you're allowing them access to is a regular folder off of the domain root?
If so, even if you could extract an encrypted password from the forum database, how would this benefit either you or the user when it seems that (according to the tests I conducted) it will be encrypted differently in /.htpasswds/foldername (where passwords are stored for protected folders)?
I guess you mean that to login to the forum, or login to the folder, they use exactly the same username and password, but you're unable to create the folder permissions without them revealing their passwords to you? Or have I misunderstood you?
