Maybe this info is significant: "...I insisted my ISP took the router back and gave me my normal cable modem back"? What router was it and how many others have you tried? Perhaps it was just a crap unit or, as a freebie, not having a lot of features or user-friendliness? It may be that our experiences (those expressed in this thread) are incomparable because we're not on cable and we use or have experience of completely different devices — too many unidentified variables here to comment any further ...

Oh no, on the contrary like I have said I spent a lot of time on it. But you do have a point with the fact that it could have been a rubbish router - I never even thought of that!
I had the router about 1 and half years ago and it was the standard router that NTL (now Virgin Media) used to hand out free to its customers. Getting it to even to the stage where I could get on the Internet on one computer was a challenge - never mind the others on the network and sorting out all the port forwarding. Not sure what model number it was - I will have a search for it and see if I can find out as that may help you tell me whether it was any good or not. How much can you get a good router for these days? - and do I have to use a Virgin Media supplied modem because I am with them - I know with AOL you have to use their hardware?
