Hi All,
I am a "Senior Citizen" with a need to exercise the grey matter who's web presence is purely a hobby. I have been with my current host since 1999 and was extremely satisfied until I moved from their windows servers to a Linux package some 2 years ago. The move has been an unmitigated disaster with constant performance issues and poor support and I am now looking to move hosts. I have been paying top price for my web space which I do not begrudge as long as the service is there (£189/Year for 800Mb). To this end I have been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks trying to get a handle on the reliability of EukHosts.
I find this public forum refreshing as it shows customers problems and subsequent resolutions warts and all. I am impressed with the involvement of the Eukhost staff who seem to be as enthusiastic as the wider community of helpful customers.
I am thinking of taking the Linux
VPS Hosting route (L-
VPS Hosting-01) with cPanel. I have a semi comercial web site hosting hosted in The States and hosting it here also would mean I was marginally better off although cost is not the primary consideration. The main reason is to mitigate some of the problems of being on a shared server and to extend my knowledge. I don't propose to sell webspace and any further sites hosted will remain under my control.
My plan would be to initially sign up for 3 months and register a new domain for ns purposes, configure the
VPS Hosting and clone my database intensive web site hosting to assess its performance. If all goes well move the remainder over and covert to an annual contract.
My concerns are that I have at present limited knowledge of either Linux or Apache although I'm a quick learner, am I biting off more than I can chew?
