I agree with widget - I do think that lots of people would be interested. eUK wouldn't necessarily have to go completely eco. A start might be to offer a "green" plan, with a couple of servers powered by renewable sources, like solar panels. This would let eUK see the demand for green hosting.
@Eidolon - I'm not sure about the whole "carbon neutral" thing myself, it was just a neat phrase to use for the poll. What we really need to be thinking is how to reduce the electricity, so more power efficient servers (if they exist, not sure), and also how to get our electricity without producing CO2. There are data centers (won't give names, don't want to accidentally advertise opposition ) in America which have gone completely solar powered, and I think I remember reading in theregister that one German company had gone hydro powered using water from a nearby river.
@DPS - true, i think we all base our decisions on those criteria, but as eUK are already near the top (or at the top) for those things, it would also be an added bonus to have a renewable source of electricity for the servers. It's not all about what politicians can do, we all have to try and reduce our co2 output.
Thanks,
Hugh

The beauty of computing and all related topics though is that it is always moving on. Theres always a new standard to set, new technology to implement, news features to support and I personally (as I'm sure most other customers are) would rather eUKhost focus on delivering this rather than something which will be largely ineffective in the whole scheme of things. While we still as countries use our cars, want instant electricity, watch 50" plasma tvs and want lots of electricals in our homes it will not be very effective.
Fair enough if eUKhost can be "eco friendly" by not being callous but I would not specifically want to see these benefits being introduced at the expense of the service that the business is providing.
I think its a huge burden to place the future of our environment on one company. As I have said, its the big changes which will make a difference, such as the Keyoto agreement being agreed by the USA.
Why should we, as the general population, lose out on what have become our basic needs, such as transport and electricity while other things are having a much larger effect?
Wars for example are having a drastic effect on climate change. All those oil lines being breached polluting the land, the oil lines on fire releasing greenhouse gases etc.
We should try to save the environment, but not at the expense of giving everything up and stoping trying to further ourselves technology and society wise. What kind of life would that be?
