Once you register private nameservers, you will need to point your domain name to those nameservers from "change nameservers" section and after that all your subdomains added on the VPS will immediately resolve from the VPS and you won't need to login in the 123-reg control panel again.

Oh dear. its worse than i thought! i am a complete and utter novice. I dont understand your post!
You say i have to register private nameservers? Is this over and above what i did on the VPS today with Alan? I altered the DNS settings to tally the nameservers to the IP's
Do i have to register the nameservers somewhere else too?
Does the text of the nameserver, have any relation to a domain name, ie would the private nameserver ns1.dnsretard.com have a direct relationship to a domain name of dnsretard.com? I have named my nameservers as per my company's domain name, but this is staying as is, nothing to do with my VPS for maybe a couple of weeks until i have everything set-up and working, then i will transfer the company domain to 123reg and point it to the VPS, does that make sense?
Ive just tried accessing the domain name i have tried to point to the VPS (its not the same name as the nameservers though) but it cant be found, either it hasnt had time to propogate or ive made a boo boo. or i still havnt completed the task.
I really appreciate all the help by the way!
Andy.
