I have just changed my MTU setting from 1500 to 1492 and things seem to be running smoother.
Worth a try, although I dont hold out much hope.

Update, Also read on some other forums about changing the DNS values to OPENDNS,
Do a google for opendns with VM, or look on the cable forums
