My server upgrade nightmare
Like the title says the thought of upgrading to a full dedicated server was a nightmare. A nightmare only in my mind as it turned out. In fact upgrading to a full dedicated server here at EUKhost couldn't have been easier for me and all the worries i had were very quickly dispelled once the team here lead by Mark and Alex took on the job of migrating the accounts i had to the new server.
I had envisaged hours of down time and a multitude of problems. I guess that's what you get when your only experience of hosting has been with reseller accounts on shared servers (not here at EUKhost i should point out) that seem to be down more than up. Worst experience with hosting was a server run by a company that went out of business and just simply shut down the server with no notice at all.
Since that day i have been uncomfortable with hosting of any kind. Unfortunately its a service we feel have to offer as web designers. Then i got a semi dedicated server here. After a month of use and with the support i found here i knew i finally had the confidence to make the commitment to a full dedicated server. Not exactly small investment for a small business but one i felt we needed to take.
Only problem was all the thoughts of what could go wrong. After all, we now have a semi dedicated server here at eukhost running just great. My father always told me "if it aint broke don't fix it" yet i couldn't help feeling that the way forward was to put all our eggs in one basket. I know everyone says not to do that but....Ditch the reseller accounts around the world and have a dedicated server with a reliable company. Only one server to worry about and as its managed by the team here, that worry is only a small one.
In the space of about two or three hours i was moved from one server to another without almost any down time. If there was any down time i didn't notice it. All in all what issues cropped up couldn't even be described as problems they were so small as to be not worth noting.
Its only been a week or so since i posted a testimonial here praising the support i received with the semi dedicated server but feel another post is in order as there may be others out there that have their own personal nightmarish thoughts about upgrading or taking that step to full dedicated server. If that's you? ditch the company your with and take the plunge. I couldn't be happier...ok that's an exaggeration it could have been free but that's the only way i could be happier. Really though well worth the investment as far as I'm concerned.
A very large thank you to Mark and Alex. No more nightmares for me.
Thanks guys.
