Please try disabling the antivirus software or firewall on your local machine if there any.

If still problem persists, try using the SMTP and POP3 mail server as the IP address of your mail server instead of mail.domain.com or domain.com

Also, you can verify the service/connection status by telnet to respective SMTP and pop3 ports offered by your server's admin.
