Hi 247h,

Tufats Flash chat is fine for small numbers, I used it some years ago. In fact my name is on his thanks list somewhere for supporting him back then in modulising it for a CMS, which I believe was one of the first to have his chat in. The problem is how it handles chat with a handfull of members on-line. It's not built for scalability.

A chat server is much more efficient.

Hi Lance,

Thanks for the very kind offer.

I was hoping for a reply from the main guys here, because the idea of having irc in whm is rather cool. It means easy use for my existing sites and if a client wanted chat it would also be a quick way of reselling the product.

Back top Tufats, I'm not sure if it's different now, but it used to be push and pull chat. So when 20 people are chatting one users post once and it comes back 21 times. now if they all posted at the same time that would be some 400 queries at once. It didn't handle it to well back then.

I do like Tufats radio script that connects to icecast and shoutcast servers, but the fault it has is AS2, it can't handle progressive streams and bottoms out after about 20 to 25 minutes depending on your memory. I found another flash which streams from icecast and shoutcast without the memory leak, I modulised it to work with a MySQL Server database within a CMS (Not yet released).

Anyway, thanks again Lance for your offer, I'll wait to see what EUK's take is on WHMSonics irc addon for whm/cpanel first before making a decision. Ultimately I like to keep control of the services I offer which then allows me to utilise them better with various promotions.
