Can I copy everything to the new server apart from the database then point the new server to the old server's IP for the db connection. When I am satisfied that everything is working OK I can copy the db to the new server.

Is this the best method ?

Thanks,

Hello Tom,

Glad that you are happy with your VPS Hosting. While the upgradation is being done, your VPS Hosting as well as the semi-dedicated server will be functional together. So in case you have dynamic content which tend to be updated (including emails, db's etc.) you can still copy them over from the VPS Hosting to the semi-dedicated server. If you can, you might also want to shut down your DB's during the actual process of migration so as to save on the effort of wanting to copy it over. We can schedule the migration during the night to facilitate this.

The old VPS Hosting would be kept functional for about one week from the time your semi-dedicated server is functional. This would allow you ample time to verify all data and functionalities.
