Hi all, I wonder if someone could advise me on a couple of things here before I wrap myself up in too many unanswered questions...
I've got an account with eukhost, and had a new domain set up for it (which so far I am really pleased with). For the purpose of building the story here, I'll call this mydomain-eukhost.co.uk, with eukhost as my webhost, and my domain name registrar agent. And lets say the DNS name servers are ns1.eukhost.com and ns2.eukhost.com on this account they set up for me.
Ok, all is well. I understand how to access my account, how the email is set up, etc.
Now then, I also have another
website hosting from a different hosting company, they also set me up a domain name with their hosting package. Lets call his mydomain-acme.co.uk, with Acme as the webhost company name and their DNS name servers are ns1.acme.com and ns2.acme.com. Again, I know how to access control panel, set up email etc etc. It all works great.
So, my thoughts are as follows. I am daft (true?) paying out for two hosting packages, so why not rationalize both the
website hostings into one hosting company. BUT also, why not rationalize them in to a single PACKAGE with that host at the same time?! Then I only pay for a single hosting package, but the public surfing my
website hostings see two distinct
website hostings with two distinct domains/email addresses etc!
I am guessing that this is possible, and perhaps the most obvious way is to say goodbye to Acme host, create a new folder in my eukhost
website hosting within the "public_html" area and call it "acme" for example. Then put my Acme
website hosting html pages in that folder. I should also transfer my domain name from Acme to eukhost (I think eukhost charge £9 to transfer the registrar ot them?). Then somewhere in cPanel on my eukhost package, set the 'www.mydomain-acme.co.uk' domain to point to this new \acme folder on my eukhost webspace.
Firstly, Is this assumption somewhere along the right lines? Or am I way off the mark? Hope I am about right, because I now want to take it a stage further.
If I do the above, how will my email work? Will I still have two distinct pop3/smtp mail server settings that I can keep separate in my Outlook email account settings (ie. mail.mydomain-eukhost.co.uk and mail.mydomain-acme.co.uk). If so, would I have to do anything special in cPanel to keep them separate or anything like that?
Sorry it took so long to get to the questions, I just thought I'd set my specific requirement out fully because I am so new to dns, shared hosting, etc etc. If anyone can offer help, please keep it step by step and avoid 'assuming' a certain level of knowledge which I might not have, if possible. Look forward to hearing any advice/comments soon.
