A private domain registration prevents exposure of your personal information like your name. address, phone no. and email address to spammers, scammers and tele marketers. Other than that I don't think there's any major benefit involved with private domain registration.

website hosting, I think whether to go for a private or the regular registration is a matter of personal preference.
