Google can easily compete with Yahoo as the later does not have a very good reputation in the domain name community.
Yahoo domains have faced a lot of criticism due to its auto renew policy.
No doubt that they offer a great price for domains but it is not without a cost. While purchasing a domain name with yahoo you automatically are on an auto renew after you sign the agreement.
Normally a registrar sends an expire notice in 60 and 30 days. Yahoo doesn't do this. If you registered 10 domains in one day, you are going to be charged $99.90 in a year for your renewals. No notice, just auto renew.
