The back up was running during the evening, not over night. Below is a email from Scott M dated 31/01/09 promising that back ups would never be run on a Saturday evening.
Dear Bill,
We have stopped backups on main node at this time. I have notified our admins regarding this. I apologize for the inconvenience caused and I also assure you that this mistake will never be repeated in future. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further assistance.
