The W-VPS-01 has 2 IP addresses. The IP addresses management section of the Plesk Control Panel shows that one is 'Shared' and one is 'Exclusive'. What is the significance of this? Is it just a business/marketing decision by the company? Or are there accepted functions for these IP addresses? What would be the normal function for each address type?
A radio button on the Plesk control panel looks like it would enable me to set the shared address to exclusive and vice-versa. How can this be? If I'm sharing one address with others, how can I make it exclusive? (I haven't touched it at this point!)

In Plesk control panel, dedicated IP addresses are referred to as Exclusive IP addresses. After installation, Plesk reads all your IP addresses from the network configuration files and can then use these IP addresses for hosting DNS domains and Web sites..
Here is how you can access the IP Address Management page where you can add and remove IP addresses, refresh the list of IP addresses, and edit the IP address properties:
1. Login to your Plesk Control Panel as admin user.
2. Click on Server from the navigation bar on the left.
3. Click the IP Addresses icon.
4. You will now see the list of available IP Addresses on the server.
An icon in the S (Status) column shows if your IP address is properly configured on the network interface. If your IP address was removed from the network interface, an icon will show a red exclamation mark.
An icon in the T (Type) column shows if an address is dedicated to a single client as an exclusive IP address, and if an IP address is shared among many clients.
The IP address, Subnet Mask and Interface columns show the network interface of the respective IP Address and its subnet mask.
The Clients column shows the number of clients (user accounts) who you have assigned an IP address to. To view the clients by names, click the respective number in the Clients column.
The Hosting column shows the number of websites hosted on an IP address. To view the domain names of these websites, click the respective number in the Hosting column.
By default, each VPS server plan is assigned with one IP address. You can sign up for additional IP(s) during initial server setup or later by getting in touch with our Billing Dept.
With Plesk you can mark all your IP addresses as shared or dedicated before you assign them to your customers. This allows the control panel to distinguish between them and not to let you assign a dedicated IP address to several customers at once.
A dedicated IP address can be assigned to a single customer, while a shared IP address can be shared among several user accounts. That is the main difference between a shared IP & a dedicated/exclusive one.
Note that SSL protection with authentic digital certificates and Anonymous FTP services are available only to dedicated hosting accounts on a dedicated IP address. Shared hosting accounts can also have SSL protection, but visitors to such protected sites will get error messages in their browsers.

No, private name servers can be setup to any other name in pair, eg. xn3.domain.com & ns5.domain.com, or anything else, but they need to be pointing to the server for name resolution. The last 2 digits of the IP address & the name servers being similar is a mere coincidence.

You have Plesk control panel installed on your VPS, which itself has Bind [Berkeley Internet Name Domain] bundled with it. Bind is used by the control panel for name resolution, so you don't have to install any more applications for the same.

If you are going to host domains on your VPS, you need to have their name server records changed at the domain registrar level, with the ones provided in the welcome email.

The name server records we provided in the welcome email will be responsible for domain resolution, you can check that by pinging the private name servers from your local machine, they'd point to your VPS's IP address.

Yes, the matching names are for accountability purpose only, if you want to have your own name servers [eg: xx1.your-domain.com & xx2.your-domain.com], you can have them registered & setup for your domains.

Any non-shared IP address, is an exclusive one or a dedicated one. The IP Address Management function of Plesk enables the administrator of the server to control the available IP Addresses on system network interfaces. This function is designed specifically for servers that have more than one IP address or more than one network interface.
I hope I've explained the differences & basic roles they play in my first reply..
For a domain [eg. some-name.co.uk] to work from your VPS, please follow these simple steps:
1) Login to the domain registrar control panel of some-name.co.uk.
2) Change the name servers to the ones we provided in the welcome email [eg. ns2xx7.uk.com & ns2xx8.uk.com].
3) Login to your Plesk control panel & add some-name.co.uk under your account as a physical hosted domain.
4) The website some-name.co.uk would start working once the DNS [in step 2] changes propagate
Hope this is useful.. please let us know if you have any further questions..
