I run a phpbb on a website hosting and have the same problem.
There has been an increase in spammers on the website hosting i manage over the past few weeks. When deleting the accounts esure to ban the e-mail that was used for registration.
e.g ban e-mail *@cashette.com, we have had a lot of .info domain spammers.
