As a general rule there's no such thing as a 'free' domain name, particularly with .com or .net. It may be possible to get one (or at least was several years ago) though the hosts cramming the pages with adverts. I'm aware it is possible to get free .tk domains and similar, however .net and .com domains have a registration cost.
