Some very good points. I can't really add much more except that, if this is your first attempt at blogging, it may be wise to simply try a free provider and see if it is for you. If you do not enjoy it or do not wish to continue, you will not have lost money, only time.
Of course, if you find that you wish to expand, you can move to a paid hosting account and setup your own blog on there, allowing for much more control over the
website hosting.
