In recent move Microsoft decided to provide support services for its soon to be retired Window XP through 2014. http://www.eukhost.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

"In addition to supporting XP through 2014, Microsoft is now actively promoting a program that allows customers to downgrade Vista systems to XP through a loophole in the company's licensing terms. Microsoft's software license allows customers who purchase a copy of Windows to install and run a previous version of the OS at no additional cost".

They've admitted Vista failure and pushed Windows 7 yet again ( 2010 ) :-|. After reading this news I don't think at the most vista is for us. :???:

I agree with Microsoft that retailers need to switch to Vista as all new laptops even with Windows XP originally had decent specifications usually 512MB RAM or higher. So I don't see much of a problem that retailers or even individuals are complaining about Vista. Sure it can't work on your 256MB RAM old desktop, but for new laptops and desktops that people buy from PC World, etc then Windows Vista would be perfectly fine. I guess people from a Linux background like old PCs that run Linux-based operating systems with just 384MB think Vista is a piece of junk with the resources that are needed but I guess Vista is bringing in a new age of technology and spec-requirements which will soon become required even on Linux-based OS's. The latest Ubuntu requires a minimum of 384MB which I thought was hastily a lot, and the last time I ever saw a Linux-based OS, it only required around 128-256MB RAM. For existing old desktops - fine, switch to XP, for new laptops/desktops - what's the problem with Vista? Most of the problems with Vista have been resolved with updates of the latest SP...

I bought a laptop 3 months ago or so, and Vista has been no problem for me... nice interface, user friendly and nice in-built software for uncompressing files... there are a lot of new features with Vista but the thing I think is a waste of time is the modifications to existing programs such as Paint and Wordpad - okay a few changes with the CTRL + Z problem with Paint, but really does there need to be a big interface change just for those 2 individual programs? Okay, I'd understand slight interface change for every program you run but just for a few I dunno...

These are all my opinions so they aren't necessarily yours, but tbh people are taking the Vista-hike a little over realistically - okay last year a few problems to moan about but most people are being biased based on overall opinion rather than their own. I like Windows and Ubuntu, both are favourable to me but which one works the best for me? That's why I choose Windows over Linux-based OS's...

Hated 95, 98, ME, XP and Vista but Vista is the best of the bunch.

For me vista is much eye candy and some time it pose like it does not know what to do... http://www.eukhost.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif may be my fault too...in my opinion XP is stable while vista still look fragile.

I like Vista - and some of its new features are timesaving and in general very useful - this is the reason why I now use Vista.

However XP is more stable in other ways but this is to be expected as it doesn't have all the fancy graphics, Aero effect etc etc.

Yeah, the only thing I don't like about Vista is that it only has the fancy Aero interface with Home Premium package and above... why do they really need 5 packages anyway?

Cos there Microsoft - more packages = more money.

This is due to the fact, think back to the days of Windows 3.1 / 95 - All features came as standard in the same package.

Now they have 5 packages on 5 different price levels and are basically "charging per feature" which = more money for Microsoft = happy Bill Gates ;).

Haha! Have you seen some programme on the BBC recently about Bill Gates? Knowing him from that programme I'm unsure if he makes that feature at all... maybe it's the programmers trying to get extra tips  - I'm sure they get commission too ;).

I preferred X 10.4, but hey. I also liked Windows 2000 the most, too.

Yes, I use Linux. I also use Vista, and I have no idea why :|

I mean how many other companies do you know that could by an island, call it "Billgaria" and be the 26th richest country in the world? :D

Yep - it was worked out a few years back so that people could try to understand the enourmous power and money that Microsoft has - I do believe also that this calculation included the value of all Microsofts assets as well.

Seen as though this was a few years ago I rekon there probably up a little higher in the rankings - "Billgaria" could well be heading towards the top 20 rich countries by now!

Hmm... well the reason I think the US wouldn't like it is because they'd lose out on tax

Yep, they sure would! I'd love to see that tax bill - I remember when a premiership footballers pay slip was printed in the Sun - the income tax for one month didnt even fit in the box properly!!

lol. I just think they didnt want to make the payslip bigger as it would no longer fit in an A4 evelope and therefore cost the (extremely rich) football club a few extra pounds a month on all the overly large wage packets lol ;).

An extra few pounds for A4 paper?!? - That's cheap!!

Noooooooooo. I meant cos if they increaed the size of the wage slip, they would have to increase the size of the paper which would increase the size of the evelope and therefore it wouldn't be A4 anymore so it would cost a little more in postage so times that by the players that earn a lot and its a few extra quid!!
