View Full Version : IPB or vBulletin?
Will be starting an online community for all my PHP scripts that I'll be submitting to open source communities, just wondering which one would you prefer to use and why? To be honest I love vBulletin. I tried a demo a few days ago and I love the features it has. I gotta try another demo! But the reason I'm debating over the two is because IPB is slightly cheaper which is something I gotta consider

If cost is the only consideration then opt for PHPBB3. I've never used IPB till now, so I can't comment on IPB. vBulletin has many plugins available which help you to integrate everything you expect in your Bulletin Board.
you can start with IPB or PHPBB3 for now and later on upgrade to vBulletin if everything goes as per plan.
SMF may be my option for now as pricing of IPB is only $39 less or so. I could go for the $100 option for the first year in vBulletin and I should have raised profit in my site by then to purchase a full vB license. IPB is a good forum software and I wouldn't have any issues using it but vB is somewhat easier to use in the admin area so vB will be the software I'll be using.
I run several vBulletin forums, the vast amount of plugins that can be added to make changes for the better is amazing!
I would recommend vBulletin over IPB as the initial question stands :)
If you've got a decent budget then vBulletin, for free there's nothing better than PHPBB3. :)

Yer, definitely, vBulletin is the way to go, but start off free, make the money for vB and then upgrade if you can't stetch to vB straight away.
