are there any wireless adapters for ubuntu?

Title says it all. I'm gonna be installing Ubuntu on my desktop, but I need to find a wireless adapter that works with Ubuntu? Anyone?

I'm sure there must be one - otherwise it would render Ubuntu a bit useless for laptops.
