What are the criteria for the best designed web site?
The one that looks best? Or the one with the best *design*?

Will you be judgin the web website on just design or will you be judging it on how the web website works and how easy it is to use? Finally what if we have a pre-made template?
Joey.

Further to this, will the judging be based on other qualities such as disabilites, (X)HTML (or other) compliance or will it be a voted thing (perhaps by forum members) based on those who apply?

My websites aren't traditionally pretty. But some of the scripting is lovely.
For instance, if anyone is interested in the boxing technology on my personal website (http:// tom.whaletattoo.com) I'd be happy to share the scripts. And IMHO the iFrame preview mechanism on my rootpage is pretty nifty: http:// whaletattoo.com.
Would this sort of thing count as design? Or is it strictly graphical?

And what about humour value... Although it's awaiting it's webcams, www. mychickencam.com is surely worth a giggle! I really must take down the dreadful stock thing in there and get round to just sticking in a decent home-crafted system. Argh

My friends BOSS at work has a webcam filming his living room 24 / 7, and its fed live to the internet. How sad.
Tonight we get to watch him sitting down.....again.

That is sad! mychickencam.com is just a fun project really. We bought 2 chickens, and now we have 9. My parents like showing off their flock to friends/colleagues so I suggested the website... I bought it and I'm still at uni. Guess what I'm doing at christmas!?!
Surprisingly a lot of friends have also asked me to let them know when it's running so perhaps it'll be more poplar than I thought!

hehe chickencam should be cool. I'll probably post a link here when I've re-written the website and christmas and got the cameras uploading. I bought a PCI security card from eBay. I'm probably gong to use windows now (originally FC4 but it's an ass to work with the card properly) to upload stills on motion detection. It takes up to 4 cameras but I currently only have 2.
I want to get a studio cam too... we just built a fantastic studio at uni (http:// andrew.nicols.org.uk/studio/pictures) so a webcam in the live room and a webcam in the control room would be rather sweet

Heck! I missed this one. Is there going to be another competition like this in the future? If so can you give us a month notice as my website needs a makeover
