Default NEW! cPanel VPS Optimized

Hello All,

I must say, one of the biggest criticisms I have for cPanel is that it's very resource intensive, even when it's sitting idle. Plesk and DirectAdmin had been beating it, on that front, for awhile now and the only thing that saved cPanel was their easy to use interface and their mass of features. Perhaps cPanel now have an even bigger advantage though...

In the past few days cPanel announced a new version of their award winning control panel, cPanel VPS Optimized. What's the big deal, I hear you ask? Well, where to start is what I say. cPanel claim this new version of cPanel, especially optimized to run on a VPS, will offer up to a 60% resource usage reduction. The amazing thing? ALL the features, in the current version of cPanel, still exist.

What does this mean for you? This essentially means that your money now stretches even further. At eUKhost we have always prided ourselves on offering very competitive pricing and we are pleased that our customers can now enjoy a significant performance increase for their money. Before when you needed a higher configuration for your needs, you may now be able to have a lower configuration with the same performance level. Do we lose out? No, is the simple answer. Although you, our client, may now opt for a lower configuration for your VPS, we will save on valuable resources. This is a win win situation for our clients and for us.

What happens now? Our VPS Team are currently testing this new version and we will await their advice on when to implement it for all new VPS setups. When our VPS team are completely satisfied, we will also recommend our current users upgrade to this new version.

Stay tuned for more information!

Sounds good - I await the teams verdict once they have tested it

I'm going to be waiting until the stable release before I upgrade. Just to make sure all the bugs are ironed out. I'm a bit puzzled as to why they're specifically making this for a VPS. I would have thought it would be better to improve their code for all server environments to make them less intensive.

Thumbs up Hey

Greetings,

New cPanel updates :

cPanel VPS Optimized
-------------------------------

cPanel VPS Optimized is a new version of cPanel / WHM specifically designed to run on Virtual Private Servers. cPanel VPS Optimized provides the feature rich functionality of cPanel / WHM while reducing memory usage by up to 60% on VPS instances.

cPanel VPS Optimized represents a great step forward for cPanel customers. The reduction in memory usage for each install allows web hosts the ability to host more domains per virtual machine. This increase enables hosts to provide a more efficient and eco-friendly server base with fewer physical machines.

The upgrade to cPanel VPS optimized will require no interaction. Once cPanel VPS Optimized has reached the build tree on your server, automatic updates ( or manual) will upgrade the current cPanel / WHM installation to a cPanel VPS Optimized installation. cPanel VPS Optimized is currently only in EDGE builds.

Information about cPanel VPS optimized can be found at: cPanel - The Leading Control Panel

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

TailWatchd
------------------------------

TailWatchd is a new concept in log processing from cPanel. Previously, three daemons were used to gather information from mail and bandwidth logs (antirelayd, eximstats and cpbandwd). These daemons have been deprecated and replaced with a more robust and more lightweight TailWatchd. The move to this new system will reduce load due to log processing and allows for a more robust interface with the daemon. This daemon with all three log processing drivers uses less memory than just eximstats!

Technical information about TailWatchd can be found at: cPanel - The Leading Control Panel

We have consulted with cPanel engineers and they have recommended EDGE version for VPS's. So, now onwards we are going to create all VPS's using EDGE version. We can change it afterwards if you wish.

Sounds like great news. Especially on VPS's where resources are more likely to be stretched .

it improves overall performance of VPS as memory usage is reduced by almost 50%. cPanel uses only 75 MB memory to run so remaining RAM can be used by other important processes.

The uptime stats for VPS's should start soaring then after its implementation .

Probably not - the VPS Optimized is only on the EDGE update path so there may be issues. I've not spotted anything yet but it has been less than 24hrs.

Worst case scenario I go back until it's ready for stable release but so far so good
