Default advice please

Hi

I have tiptopbirthdayparties.co.uk with you.

Have identified a weakness of when I give the web address over the phone it can be rather long and open to miss spelling.

Thinking of having a smaller address to quote like tiptop.co.uk and have this pointed to main site.

Will this work or is there an easier way?

I see tiptop has gone do you have any other idea of what I could use?

Also looking for a web site hosting to use for redevelopment a web site hosting that I can upload a new web site hosting to test ideas without it being live to existing customers...Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Colin

Only you can decide what an acceptable abbreviation or substitute for your domain might be, but whatever you might choose, you can park the other domain on top of tiptopbirthdayparties.co.uk and anyone using that domainname will arrive at the main website hosting.

It doesn't seem you're looking very hard — if you want something short to the point of initials I see that 'ttbp' is available in only .net, .eu, .biz, .org.uk, .me.uk varieties but 'ttparties' and 'tiptopparties' are both available in all varieties of TLD — why are you limiting yourself to birthday parties only I am left wondering?

Hi

Thanks for your advice.

That’s was I was hoping would happen just making sure I was on the right track.

The reason for limiting birthday parties is that I already have a main web site hosting www.mrfuzzy.co.uk.

I want to target my website hosting to specific markets...Eventually I would like sites for my weeding shows, Safety shows, balloon workshops etc.

OK Colin, understood. However you didn't comment on whether you liked the suggested 'ttbp' abbreviation and it would seem to be most directly suitable? Don't worry about the lack of .co.uk — I always feel you're better off using a common TLD, preferably .com but as .net, .biz and .eu are available, then they're just as good in this scenario of being parked on top of the existing domain.

Even tee-tee-bee-pee dot ??? isn't 100% user-friendly on the telephone as it might require explanation by phonetics, but it's a whole lot better than ess, eff, em and en!

You can also use your truncated parked domain for email addresses — your e-correspondents will thank you for it ...

Hi

Thank you for your advice, it is very much appreciated.

I take on board your comments of other TLD.

Leaning towards tiptop1.co.uk believe this would go well over the phone or in voice mail, going to do some testing on it.

I don't understand you comment below could you explain further please.......

Sorry Colin, it wasn't my intention to be confusing ...

Truncated = shortened, therefore I meant your e-correspondents will much prefer to address their mails to the parked domain if it's something like 'colin at ttbp dot net' rather than 'colin at tiptopbirthdayparties dot co dot uk' (of course)! There's no sense in using the long version for anything other than the master domain (and sometimes not even then) ...
