Advice please on moving to eukhost from US host
Hi,
I would like to sign up for the eukhost platinum package and switch my hosting from Hostmonster.com, my current US-based host.
To be fair they have been excellent since I set up with them six months ago. My problem is that I'm based in the UK and all my websites will be UK content-driven and for a UK based customer market. At the moment I have only one site'live' with Hostmonster which I launched a week ago. It's already showing up at position 11 in a google full search but shows no record with google when a potential visitor selects google's PAGES FROM THE UK option - which I know many people, including myself, use. I've since estabished that my websites won't show in this option ever while my websites are hosted outside the UK. For obvious reasons it's crucial I switch to a UK host and eukhost seems to tick all the right boxes for what I require. Hostmonster has cpanel etc so, from reading on the eukhost website, I understand it shouldn't be too painful to move things across (email accounts, domain folders etc). I've spoken to Hostmonster and they fully understand my predicament about the PAGES FROM THE UK issue. They say they will do evenything to liaise with any new hosting service I choose. I have about 25 domain names registered with them and would like to leave them with Hostmonster and renew with them at the right time...but have hosting elsewhere. I'm a bit confused about the first steps to take and would appreciate any advice. I'm a bit anxious about getting anything procedurally wrong for fear of impacting on the only 'live' website I currently have. The live website is a standalone addon website from the main website registered to open the account with Hostmonster. That domain name was free as part of the package with Hostmonster so can that still be carried across to eukhost even though I'm cancelling with HOstmonster and they are reimbursing the payment I've made for the remainder of the hosting package I signed up to with them (about 18 months of it left). Or should the primary domain name I registered with Hostmonster stay with them and point to eukhost or something. I'm a bit out of my depth on the best way to proceed and would appreciate any hand-holding advice.
Thanks
Wes Graham

Hi Wes.
eUKhost will make every effort to have you move any existing hosting acounts to the eUKhost servers.
Providing your previous host is using cPanel, the transfer process is extremely easy, and can be done with a few clicks by the eUKhost support team.
You may wish to keep your domain name(s) with your previous hosting provider, and change the nameservers so that they point to the eUKhost servers - or you may wish to transfer them to eUKhost, (this may result in an additional yearly charge, but I believe that eUKhost offers a free domain with each package, so hopefully, this will include domain transfers aswell.)
To get your hosting account transfered, contact eUKhost via email on support [at] eukhost.com before purchasing any hosting package - as this will make the file transfers etc easier.
Let me know if you need any more help.

Hello there and welcome to the forum!
I've just done a move from one cPanel server to another and it was pretty easy. I would say tech support will be more than happy to help from the past experience I've had with them. The support here is great!
Regarding transferring your domains, I'm not sure whether eUK will transfer them in for free, however as you're current host seems so understanding, they may well be happy to just change the nameservers as and when is necessary to eUK. This would mean hostmonster would still control the domain name setting etc. but when you go to the website, you get your website on the eUK servers. I do something similar with my domain names as I've bought them from 123-reg and point them to the eUK servers. It's dead easy to do but they may have to do it for you (you'll need to ask them about that). If however it is free for you to transfer them to eUK, I would do that but you'll be best asking the billing department regarding that (or one of them might comment on here).
Anyway, hope that's some use! Feel free to shout for more help. That's what's great about this forum that someone usually knows the answer and no one cares if it seems like a stupid question. We've all been there!

Hi jc8654 ( sorry, don't know your name) and Thomas,
Thanks a million for your replies. I genuinely appreciate you getting back to me. Your advice is very reassuring at a time when I feel a bit anxious about going through the whole process again which I'd only recently gone through with Hostmonster and had everything ship shape. I'll act on your advice and get things going tomorrow.
Thanks again - if your sympathetic and helpful advice is typical of how things are done at eUKhost then I guess I'm definitely making the right decision in choosing it as my new host.
A couple of other questions you may be able to help with ...Could you confirm that I will be able to have several addon domains on a platinum account. Will they be able to function as standalone urls eg mystie1.com, mysite2.com, and not have urls that are extensions of the primary account domain name? I have about 20 domain names and eventually want to launch them all in the next 12-18 months as part of the main account. Each website will probably consist of about 50-60 pages and I don't envisage huge traffic so I imagine bandwidth won't be an issue.
Also, are the eUKhost servers definitely in the UK? I read that some UK Hosts have the hosting themselves outside the UK which would presumably put me back to square one regarding the issue referred to in my original post about Google's PAGES FROM THE UK option.
One other thing - I have cpanel with my current host and an SMF discussion forum with my 'live' website. Can that be transferred across as I notice eUKhost has PHPBB instead of SMF?
Cheers
Wes

Yes, you can host as many domain names as you like.
Your SMF forum will be automatically transfered during the transfer process.
The eUKHost servers are in a datacenter called Bluesquare, which is in Berkshire, England.

It's Jonathan. Lol.
And I think Thomas has just about covered everything there. Do add the new domains, in cPanel you simply go to addon domains and create them there. This will create a new directory and a subdomain on your account as well as the domain itself.
For example say you had your main one as microsoft.com and another as google.com, you could create the directory called google and then the subdomain would be google.microsoft.com but you could also access it from google.com. That's just the way cPanel does it but from what you've said, that should be fine.

Hi Jonathan, Thomas,
What can I say - again I'm truly impressed with your quick and helpful replies. You've made me feel much more confident about the changeover process already. I hope you're around on the forum if I start hitting problems or hitches.
Thanks again.

There's an awful lot of helpful people on here, not just us. And I'm around when I can be. Tomorrow I'm driving 200 miles round trip to go and set up a wireless network and sorting out digital TV so I might be absent! All in the name of family. Lol.

What a welcome!
Hi,
I'm really impressed with this forum and I only joined today....constructive advice and help....no talking down to people. My first post on the forum has been a very pleasant experience. I'm no design guru so I put my websites together in Serif's WebPlus10 which I find very user friendly with plenty of tools, ecommerce, smart objeccts etc - at a great price too...I abandoned mission after six month slogging through Dreamweavaer and Net Objects Fusion. The Serif forum is a great place too - fantastic support and advice....unlike the other forum I went to for assistance today (SMF discussion board help forum) I felt like I was being savaged by know-it-all lions who are more interested in patronising 'learners' and showing off their own technical know-how - rather than trying to help newcomers improve their skills - maybe I just stumbled on the wrong crowd.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone who offered me help and advice today - I'm sure I'll be needing more of the same in the weeks ahead.
Wes

I wondered when you'd appear on here David. Lol. And just for reference, my tasks today included setting up wireless router, digital TV setup, new mobile phone instruction session and digital camera lesson with transfer. It also involved 3 trips to shops for things and I set up a lawn mower! So that's why I haven't been about today!

Hi,
Further to my original post and the helpful advice from forum members, can anyone tell me if the eUKhost support team operates on a Sunday? If so, what roughly is the response time? - I emailed support about four hours ago with a view to opening an account and don't want to keep checking my emails if I'm not likely to get a response today.
Thanks
Wes

The support team does work on a Sunday, but as it is with most businesses on a Sunday, it's only 'skeleten' staff.

You had opened ticket in support department and they moved your ticket in pre-sales queue as support department deals with technical problems only. We have limited Sales staff on Sunday but the support staff moved ticket in pre-sales queue by mistake while it should have been in Sales queue.
I managed to go through all tickets in pre-sales queue which hold tickets waiting for customers reply and your ticket was sitting over there.
I have replied to your ticket.

Just so you know Wes, support is 24X7 so whenever you have a problem, you can get it fixed.
