Default .IS domain hosting

Hi there,

Since Bluehost no longer support .IS DNS hosting, I'm moving my website hosting somewhere else. Isnic has very strict requirements when it comes to DNS hosts which can be found at
www. isnic.is/host/req.php and www. isnic.is/domain/req.php

Now, I have three questions
  1. Do you support .IS DNS hosting
  2. Can I be sure I'll be hosted in UK
  3. Do you support PHP5?

Iceland's link to the USA is way to small and as I'm mainly hosting photographs that is a rather big deal.

* Edit: Added PHP5 question

Thanks,
Steinar Hugi

I am not able to understand language on webpages you have referred but we can meet the requirements for DNS hosting of .IS domains. .IS domains need both nameservers to be hosted on different subnet which we can setup for you.

We will need to maintain zone of your domain on 2 different servers but that wont be a problem. outbound and inbound connection on port 53 is open on our linux servers so both requirements will be satisifed.

If there's anything else then please translate and let me know.

Technical Requirements

.IS delegation requirements are as follows:

1. The nameservers must be registered with ISNIC.
2. Nameservers must allow zone transfer of the hosted zone (domain ending in .is) to network 193.4.58.0/24.
3. SOA records must be correctly formatted:
1. Master nameserver correctly named in the MNAME field.
2. Working mailbox of responsible party in RNAME field.
3. Times (refresh, retry and expire) according to RFC1912
4. TTL for NS records not lower than 24 hours.
5. Correct NS records. Properly registered in the appropriate zones, both forward and reverse. I.e. the nameserver's name must be included in the PTR record set for the nameserver's IP address.
6. MX record exists for the domain, pointing to a working mail server. The postmaster alias for the domain must exist and accept mail.

This thing wont be possible on a shared server. You will need to consider a VPS Hosting for this requirement. All custom requirements you have mentioned can be satisfied on a VPS Hosting as you have full control on a VPS Hosting or a dedicated server.

There was no problem hosting on Bluehost's packed servers before they disabled zone transfer... Many .IS domains are hosted on shared servers.

You will need to purchase 2 Dedicated IPs for your nameservers as you need reverse dns on both the nameservers which will be possible only if you have 2 dedicated IPs for the nameservers.

We charge £2 extra per month per dedicated IP address. If you are willing to pay for the dedicated IPs then you can host your .IS domains on shared hosting package.

I think you're misunderstanding the requirements. Dedicated ip addresses are technically not required, most .IS domains are hosted on shared IP addresses.

You can test setting up an dot IS domain and error checking it at this url:
www. isnic.is/english/host/test.php

As long as the domain exists it can be used for testing, for example steinar.is.

I've been surfing through hosts and I really like yours the most. It would be great if you could host me, and probably many more since all Icelandic Bluehost customers are required to move their hosting somewhere else.

thanks
Steinar Hugi

Hello Steinar,

You have mentioned that you will need private nameservers and they should have rDNS so this requirement will need 2 dedicated IPs for your private nameservers. If you don't need private nameservers then you don't need dedicated IPs.

Simply signup for shared hosting package and see if things work for you or not. If you manage to setup nameservers properly then thats well and good and if not then we will issue refund as per our 30 day money back guarantee.
