Default A few questions before we order VPS Hosting

Hi,

I am considering ordering one of your VPS Hosting packages (L-VPS Hosting-01 to start with) but would like to check a few things in advance to avoid disappointment:

1) Previously I only used bog standard virtual hosting rather than VPS Hosting, so can you please provide a couple of sites you host on those VPS Hosting accounts (ideally the one I am looking for) so that I could check if they are fast or not, ping them etc.

2) I will need proper SSL for at least one of my website hosting hosted there, this seems to be possible with VPS Hosting account, but could you please confirm that it is fairly straightforward to setup and CPU allocated to that VPS Hosting account should be sufficient to handle HTTPS quickly? Would be great if you could give one of your customer sites with HTTPS so that I could see it first hand.

3) One of my scripts queries external (not hosted on your network, but if things go very well I might consider colocation later) XML server using HTTP on port 8080, I can change this port but would rather not make it port 80, will it work as is?

4) Addon domains - I plan to go for CPanel as I am used to it, and will host a few domains on the same account, the concern here is whether you provide DNS services so that all I would need to do with my domains is change primary and secondary nameservers to point to your DNS server which in turn I'd expect to resolve to correct IP. This sounds obvious to me but the last hosting provider I tried a few days ago did not provide that - major bummer

5) My understanding is that you do have 30 days money back guarantee, and also in case of annual order if it is cancelled some months later then you will refund money "pro rata", ie for remaining months.

6) I am new to this VPS Hosting hosting thing, it seems to be a good step up from virtual hosting, am I right expecting that it would generally perform better than virtual hosting that I'd expect would have more sites per server than with VPS Hosting?

Thank you - I do hope that my search for a good hosting provider is over.

regards,

Alex

Hello,

1) Previously I only used bog standard virtual hosting rather than VPS Hosting, so can you please provide a couple of sites you host on those VPS Hosting accounts (ideally the one I am looking for) so that I could check if they are fast or not, ping them etc.

>>> We cannot provide you the sites names without the concern of the customers. Although we can provide you the IP to which you can ping and check.

You can Ping to : 92.48.110.253
========================================

>>>> Yes, you can get SSL for your domains. VPS Hosting is capable of running https. Most of the VPS Hosting customers run SSL on there site. so that should not be the issue. SSL is not included in the VPS Hosting package. For this you need to order is seperately, it will cost you 39 GBP per year per domain, which includes dedicated IP and the SSL certificate from the Trusted Authority.
==============================================

3) One of my scripts queries external (not hosted on your network, but if things go very well I might consider colocation later) XML server using HTTP on port 8080, I can change this port but would rather not make it port 80, will it work as is?

>> Assuming that you're running TOMCAT, we would not recommend you LVPS Hosting-01 for that. You can go for semidedicated server as TOMCAT uses high memory recources.
================================================== =

>> Yes, you can add domains to your VPS Hosting using WHM and just point the nameserves to our VPS Hosting IP at your registrar end. It will work fine as soon as it is propogated worldwide. It normally take couple of hours for the propogation over the internet.

a) You can go for your own private nameservers, register the nameservers as ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com and point the same to our VPS Hosting IP

OR

b) You can also go for the uniq nameservers which are provided by us along with your VPS Hosting.

OR

c) You can use your own existing nameservers. Just need to ponit those to point to our VPS Hosting IP at your registrar end.
================================================== =========================

5) My understanding is that you do have 30 days money back guarantee, and also in case of annual order if it is cancelled some months later then you will refund money "pro rata", ie for remaining months.

>>> Yes, you will get the refund for remaining months. But here I would also add that We will not be able to refund you the amount for cpanel-license and other License software which you may Opt for.
================================================== ==

6) I am new to this VPS Hosting hosting thing, it seems to be a good step up from virtual hosting, am I right expecting that it would generally perform better than virtual hosting that I'd expect would have more sites per server than with VPS Hosting?

>> You will definately enjoy the hosting with VPS Hosting and the serivces we provide you. You will get the root access to your VPS Hosting along with the Virtuozzo panel, which helps you to Monitor your resources, starts, stop and restart your VPS Hosting.

Yes, I can assure you that, your search for the Good hosting Provider is over

A simple typo presumably but you need to be more careful about quoting prices, when mistakes like this will definitely frighten potential customers! It should be 39 GBP PER YEAR per domain ...

I saw that and I was a little shocked! If it was that price, I was going to say you could get it elsewhere and install it yourself. As your VPS Hosting will come with 2 IPs you could use one for your SSL without needing a new dedicated one.

Hi guys,

Thanks for quick replies!

1. IP is fine - it seems fast to ping, so that checks.

2. SSL: sounds good, monthly figure was obviously a typo, no problem there.

3. I should have clarified - script is PHP, so it is lightweight and I don't plan on running TomCat server at all - server side (for web things that I plan to host here) I am purely PHP with some small elements of MySQL (for phpbb). I assume here memory should be enough for a small bulletin board here.

4. Right, I am not expert in DNS - when I will addon new domain (which is already registered elsewhere with a registar) in CPanel, which DNS server would I need to set as primary/secondary DNS server in my domain config in registar? My strong preference here would be to use your own DNS servers rather than VPS Hosting because I reckon all things equal your DNS servers should be more reliable.

The reason I ask in such a detail is because new hosting I tried this week turned out to be a nightmare - adding on domain in CPanel on their web site hosting did not register it with their DNS servers so they told me to have my own external DNS server rather than just specify their own nameservers like I did in the last 10 years with other hosting companies, they also told me my script won't be allowed to run, so naturally I had to tell them to take a hike - and they looked so good on paper

5. Ok, so Cpanel is charged for whole year in advance: 5*12=60 GBP and it's not refundable? Thought you had license for whole server and were just reselling or something?

6. Ok I hope VPS Hosting will be good - looking forward for having a bit more control over hosting than just virtual stuff I used before (and some of it was terrible, hence the move!)

Thank you for your time.

Alex

Ans :- Yes. Allocated RAM will be sufficient as long as you get less traffic than our forum.

4. which DNS server would I need to set as primary/secondary DNS server in my domain config in registar?
Ans :- We will provide you with 2 nameservers setup on one of our domain, but those will be hosted on your VPS Hosting. You should use those nameservers or you can setup private nameservers for your VPS Hosting. hosting DNS on remote server is of no use as it will complicate things and you will need to add records of subdomains manually on your DNS server if you use remote server for DNS hosting.

5. Ok, so Cpanel is charged for whole year in advance: 5*12=60 GBP and it's not refundable? Thought you had license for whole server and were just reselling or something?
Ans :- its 5x10 = £50 for whole year.

6. Ok I hope VPS Hosting will be good - looking forward for having a bit more control over hosting than just virtual stuff I used before (and some of it was terrible, hence the move!)
Ans :- No other VPS Hosting provider uses Dell poweredge 1950 with 2 x E5420 CPU's, 12 GB RAM. Our VPS Hosting plans are bit expensive, but much much better than the Dedicated Servers provided by some other dedicated hosting providers.

Ok, this sounds fine - thanks for taking time to respond

I will take your advice with DNS servers - I hope VPS Hosting will have good uptime as I am planning to move all my small sites to one place now, will first try it on one though, will place order now to get things going!

Well, it's been just over a week since I placed order for VPS Hosting and so far very impressed - going to move more sites to account next week, VPS Hosting control panel is sure amazing - so many options so tempting to use them but I stay away from them as it works well so I ain't going to try to fix it
