Hello Fragolino,

It is possible to install Flash Media Server but only on a Dedicated Server. Flash Media Server is used for either streaming videos stored on the server to the flash client or for Live Video application or for Real Time Communication between multiple clients, such as a chat room or multiplayer game. We do not host these services on shared servers or VPS nodes as they end up using a lot of server resources and may hamper other accounts on the same server due to overloading.

Dedicated Server is okay.

Can you recommend another way to realize a live-stream?

we can install Helix real server application for online streaming. you can take a look at realnetworks.com/ for more information. 30 day evaluation version is free and they have limited user options as well.

we have helix installed for some of our customers so it wont be a problem for us to do the same for your server.

What is the best dedicated server plan for flash media server?

we have up to 20 live-streams with approx. 40 connections per every live-stream

I would recommend a x3210 server with 4 GB RAM. this server has got 8 MB cache and its a Quad Core Xeon server.

you wont need to consider a new server even if your traffic gets twice or thrice in short span.

Do you think that a Quad-Core is better for FMS rather than a Dual Single-Core Xeon?
I think FMS is built to work on an asymetric server, but a Quad-Core is still a single processor (albeit a much faster one than either a single or dual core processor)

I wish I could find some benchmarks to see the differences.

CPU cache is more with the Quad core CPU's and thats the biggest advantage you have incase of Quad Core CPU's. CPU speed is also superb and multiple queries are processed in no time. If you have some different information then let me know as I've done good amount of research on CPU performance

Wow. Great info. so now I just need to know which would give better FLASH performance:

Server A: Single Proc Quad-Core Kentsfield with 4GB RAM
Server B: Single Proc Dual-Core Conroe with 4GB RAM
Server C: Dual Proc Singe-Core HT Xeon with 4GB RAM

Each server will be running ColdFusion/SQL Server/Flash Communication Server (soon to be replaced with FMS 3.0)

Your thoughts?

Hello Ricardo,

Please let me know the CPU speed and CPU cache of respective servers. I can provide you with some detailed information if you provide me with CPU speed and CPU cache.

I went with the Intel Xeon 3210 Quad Core Kentsfield Processor (2x 4MB Cache). I got it with 3 x 250GB SATA in RAID-5. I am running video conf, and video broadcast applications with FCS 1.5. I got that for $400/mo. Do you think anyonelse wants another one of those? Today is the last day for the special I receive.

My only concern now is that my license for FCS 1.5 may be legally invalid because Adobe sees a quad-core as 2 CPUs (according to a sales rep from Toronto Adobe reseller).
