Smile Hits vs Members

Hi eUKhost!

First time on the forum!

There are lots of questions, but this will do for starters:

What is the difference between hits and visitors?

What difference do Registered Members and hits/visitors make to website space and bandwidth?

Many thanks!

Hey! And welcome to the forum!

I could be wrong on this as I'm not an expert in this field so this could be rubbish, but from what I understand hits is the number of file loads on the server. For example, if you had a page with text and an image (say index.htm and photo.jpg), when someone went to the index page, the image would be loaded as well so that would count as two hits. Now, the number of visitors is the number of requests for your site/page from different IP addresses i.e. the number of different people looking at your website.

And difference between registered members and visitors is nothing when it comes to bandwidth if they load the same files.

Hope that helps (and sorry if I'm wrong!)

Thanks jc (there must be a pun in there somewhere!)

I'll just keep accumulating until I'm satisfied that I know enough!

lol. I can understand how it would be for me to go through so many things if I was a novice. I think you should start with the knowledgebase first and then later on you should try the flash tutorials we have in our support section.

You were right JC. A website can have one visitor that is able to make many hits on different pages - that is it summed up in one sentence!

So for example the first page (index.htm) with one image (image.jpg) - the index page has got a hit there and so has the image file and the person may continue to browse to other pages (page1.htm, page2.htm) but not matter how many pages / images / downloads they view they are still one visitor.
