ID Protection
I was looking at ordering a .com domain name. An option came up:
"ID Protection (£12.00 GBP)"?
What is this exactly?
Is it a one off payment?
Many thanks.

Domain ID Protection feature makes the contact information related with your domain name private. You would be able to hide your name and organization, contact details such as address, phone number, email address, etc, which will be otherwise accessible through public Domain Whois services. £12.00 GBP is the charge per year, £6.00 per year is the charge for ID Protection feature besides £6.00 as .com domain registration/renewal fees.

So basically if your hiding from somebody, your setting up a scam or your paranoid about having your details in the public domain - thats the option for you!

ok, thanks! But, I have ordered .com addresses in the past and the whois details say eukhost. This used to be standard?
Does that mean my old .com registrations will show my personal details (I havent looked!)?
Thanks for the clarification!
edit: yeah ive just checked my old domain -

So if I registered now without paying £12 my details would be there? Will my old domain registration always be hidden - eg when i renew it later in the year?

Its not that your old domain details are hidden - its just when you've signed up eUKhost has inserted their details. If they were hidden the whois database would say "This registration is private" and would have "Private" written after address, telephone etc.
I would imagine any domains that you register from now on will include your details unless you opt for ID protection.

Yep I see what ya saying. I kinda like the privacy, I never actually do anything commercial.
Can anyone confirm that personal details will go in rather than eukhost like it used to? I liked it better when it didn't cost £12 to keep your address private

Without domain privacy protection it means your personal information (address, telephone number, etc.), is accessible to the public and it isn't such a big concern except spam. If you want to make sure you don't receive spam and so your details are WHOIS protected then go for the privacy protection option. The majority of times you won't receive any spam at all so the option is down to you .
When I say spam, it could be sales personnel contacting you about various products of theirs from the contact details they found in the WHOIS database.

Hi,
You can open a ticket for our Billing department and ask them to manually change Contact information of your domain name. They will select our information as Registrant and Administrative contact for your domain name. This way you won't need to pay £6 extra for Privacy protection.

I am surprise that customers can bypass this and get the private domain relationship for free.
IMHO... i think eukhost should offering these domain privacy as a free feature to all customer.

As a customer you can hide your information in whois, but you won't like it if we hide information of our domain in whois.

They do - and unfortunately now people are becoming more and more suspicious of sites who hide there info.
I found one selling concert tickets and when I checked whois and saw it was private got very cold feet and went elsewhere. So thats sales - 1 for them this month, and most likely sales -5000 over the rest of year!
