Mailing Lists & MS Access Databases - Windows Hosting

Hi there,

I have a couple of questions regarding the shared windows hosting before I commit to buying a package.

1. Mailing Lists

How many mailing lists may an account have? Are these mailing lists one way (administrator to people signed up to the mailing list) or can everyone send e-mails to everyone else on the list?

2. MS Access Databases

How many access databases can be drawn upon? I see for some of the other database support options you actually specify unlimited numbers but not with MS Access which makes me wonder if it's limited to just one.

Welcome to the forum.

You can have as many mailing lists as you wish to. These mailing lists are one way i.e. administrator to people signed up to the mailing list.

The number of MS Access databases is not just limited to one. You can add unlimited no. of MS Access databases under any of our Windows shared hosting packages.

Hmm, that disappointing to hear about the mailing list being one-way, although I must say the rest of the windows package looks good.

I know it's a bit cheeky to ask, but do you happen to know any providers for mailing lists that provide discussion lists which work on windows hosting because the only ones I've found are linux based?

Also, your website hosting was linked to on the Mailman wiki - am I right in assuming that I'd need to use the linux-based hosting to host mailman and if so would I be able to use my MS Access database in a linux-based hosting package to create a website hosting using php rather than asp.net?

Sorry for all the questions, I haven't purchased a server hosting package before so I'm afraid I'm a little unsure of what is possible and what to expect.

You can consider 2 separate hosting packages for your requirements. Linux package will run your mailing lists and email service for your domains and the domains will resolve from the windows server for working of MS ACCESS and ASP.NET on your website hostings.

We have similar solution for many customers and this solution is perfect for them as the stability of email service on Linux Servers cannot be questioned.

I've had long discussion with our Windows System Administrators and they are quite reluctant to offer Mailman mailing lists on windows as this feature will need manual customization on servers so you wont be able to manage your lists through control panel.

Consider my suggestion about 2 packages as we also have similar setup for our website hosting though we have Linux on both servers but our Web server handles only http and MySQL Server requests while email service and helpdesk works from a different server.

Thats good but if you have requirement for asp.net then you can consider a small windows package in future. there's no way to run asp.net from Linux so if you need asp.net then consider a windows package.

Anyways, you should feel comfortable now as cpanel makes things really easy tun online business.
