Default Mirroring?

Hi,

I'm currently hosting a (shared server) website elsewhere and having some difficulties that are producing 503 and 504 messages. I am looking around at alternative hosts* while wondering if it's simple to set up a mirror of the existing domain, so that if one server is inaccessible the visitor will be redirected to the other. In other words, I am not looking to give up the other hosting account, but am looking for a solution to some technical issues.

* and came here because there's a forum where I can ask questions! Good selling point, that.

Mirroring is possible only if you have a Dedicated Server / VPS with both providers. Mirroring solution won't work with shared hosting.

We have expertise in setup of mirrored servers and our Business Hosting plan runs on similar concept. You can check the detailed information on http://www.eukhost.com/business-web-hosting.php

Thanks for that bit of info, Mark.

Since I'm keeping the existing shared server account, it sounds like there's no alternative when it's inaccessible. The workaround of setting up a distinct domain and copying stuff across seems like a lot of hassle. It might be worth setting something up as a sort of intermittent live backup - a bit like the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

eUKhost will be able to transfer files over for you which'll save you the hastle. There is no downtime during this process as the nameservers can be changed after the files have been transferred across.

Hi just a follow up to the original question, I followed the business link.

It says:

To continue with this trend, we are proud to launch Business Web Hosting with 100% Uptime Guarantee !
Now, I've looked at your Mirroring solution, and while it will minimise certain issue, hardware failure, OS failure ect, but (I'm making a presumption here) as both servers, master and slave will be located in the same DC, is it possible to proclaim 100%, as to do that, wouldn't it need to be in two seperate datacentres, as faults in the Datacentre, either outside routers, inside Network will effect both servers?

Not having a go, at the solutions, as it is something I am interested in, but just questioning the 100% statistic.

Plus have you any statistics on the uptime of said system available?

Cheers

Real time data synchronization on public network is quite complicated and you can never swap IPs of servers if both servers are located in different datacenters. If IP f your website is to change then that involves DNS propagation time which means downtime

Both, master as well as slave server are hosted in 2 different Racks and we have 100% Network uptime and uninterrupted power supply for our servers so downtime is limited to Rack related problems only. It is possible that one Rack may face problem, but its rare to see problems with 2 Racks at a time. We've done good research so far and there's no other way to achieve 100% uptime guarantee

The datacentre where the servers are located has several independent connections to the web so if one goes down there is still plenty of bandwidth to access your servers. So 100% uptime in the same datacentre is definately a sound option with the levels of redundency eUK have built in to their network.
