Default Multiple domains hosting

Hi,

I am confused about how the multiple domains work. I emailed eukhost and they suggested I visit the cpanel website hosting:

Quote:
I would reccomend visiting the cpanel website hosting for further information. There is only one publi_html folder all addon domains get added as subdomains in the control panel to adminster them but are seperate domains on the web.
The package I am considering is the Linux shared hosting platinum - 8 domains can be hosted. I currently have 5, completely seperate, website hostings and am worried about clashes of hosting them as "subdomains." How do error 404 get delt with? Can I log into each website hosting seperately? for example if i wanted to give access to one of the website hostings to a friend would they see all the sites?

cPanel info:

Quote:
The Addon Domain Maintenance menu allows you to add addon domains to your account. An addon domain allows you to reach a subdomain when entering the name of the addon domain into a browser. This means that you can host additional domains from your account, if allowed by your web hosting provider.
more found at:
www. cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/

any help appreciated, Rob

You can have an infinite number of addon domains. These each create a subfolder within your public_html folder for you to put the content of that domain.

When people load your website hosting using any of your addon domains, the data will appear to come from your addon domain as a url.

Eg. My main website hosting is www. pratt.me.uk
www. sonicvibe.co.uk is an addon domain.

You can add multiple addon domains and at the time of adding you need to specify username and password for FTP access of that addon domain. If you give this FTP information to your friend then he can upload in directory of that particular addon domain only.

It is good that 'a friend' can have FTP access to just one addon domain but can they have access to the control panel features for that site? For example could my sister manage her site's spam assassin or do I have to do it?

I would doubt you could do this with a standard shared hosting plan. I think if you want that sort of functionality that you'ld need a reseller plan. I'm sure one of the Team will be along shortly to confirm this position.

Hello Rob,

Your sister can manage her website hosting with FTP only. She wont get any other access unless you give her login details for the control panel.

If you want her to have control panel access then choose a reseller account as reseller WHM will allow you to setup unlimited individual accounts.

I am wanting to do a similar thing. Host another domain under my shared account. Will the person get all e-mail features e.g. name@whateverdomain.com and can they login using settings just like the main domain.

You can host another domain under you existing shared account using the Addon Domains function in your control panel. An addon domain will act like a full account, so you can create sub-domains, email accounts e.g. name@addondomain.com and FTP accounts directly from the cPanel for your addon domain.

When you order a package, click on 'Register a New Domain', enter your desired domain name and proceed. In the drop down in front of 'Package' select 'Domain Registration only'.

Found it, in the domain owner contact info can I put someone else's details as it will belong to them. Just I will be managing it all on their behalf.

Yes, You can put the contact details of the person in whose name you wish to register the domain. Once the domain is registered then you can add that domain as an Addon domain under your existing hosting account.
