PHP Safe Mode on Linux - cPanel servers?
Hi,
I'm interested in signing up for the Gold package, which seems to meet all my requirements for running a small stock photography website.
The website is based on a template called Pixaria (minimum specs can be found at http://www.pixaria.com/index.technical.php)
It requires PHP Safe Mode to be switched off. Will I be able to run my website on eUKhost? It works fine on UKWSD ( http://www.tjphotography.co.uk/stock)
Thanks in advance.
Tim

Not sure about this but I do know that some php functions are disabled however I couldn't list them.
I am sure somebody from eUKhost will be along shortly and can confirm whether or not PHP Safe Mode is on or off.

by default php safe_mode is turned Off on all our Linux - cPanel servers. Our Gold plan should be more than sufficient for your requirements as of now.

Say hello to your newest customer! Just waiting for the account to be activated and for the welcome e-mail with the IP address and nameservers and I'll be away.
Thanks again.

Hi,
Safe mode appears to have been switched on, I've started getting messages like this on my site:
Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 32367 is not allowed to access /home/tjphotog/public_html/stock/resources/library/2007-06-22-20-06-13-0EA8/630x630/Orange Gerbera Daisy.jpg owned by uid 99 in /home/tjphotog/public_html/stock/resources/includes/libraries/psg.browser.lib.php on line 308
It's showing as 'On' under PHP Configuration. Please can you switch it off on my account please.
Thanks,
Tim

Hi,
Safe_mode is still showing as being "On" when I look in PHP Configuration and pages of my website are still showing errors. (e.g. http://www.tjstockphotography.co.uk/gallery/14/image/0)
I have tried flushing all caches, temp files, rebooting the computer and different Internet connections without success.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

From the error messages being displayed it would appear safe mode is still on .

I started following the discussion in the Tech Support forum as others were having problems; all has been resolved now and my website is fully functional again.
Many thanks for the quick response to this, much appreciated.

I was going to say, safe mode seems to be disabled now. Glad your website is back up and running and good luck with it!

It is possible, it makes it easier for them to find the info - however the most determined people will still find it if they want it unfortunately (as with everything - if theres a will theres a way!)
