Default PHP Sockets?

If I had a domain hosted with eukhost, would I be able to use socket connections via PHP?

Also do you have PEAR modules installed that can be accessed from anywhere?
E.g. require('Mailer.php');

I was also wondering if it's possible to use Shoutcast streaming audio server software or similar?

Thanks,

You can use Socket connection via PHP without any problem. All necessary pear modules are installed on our servers and the one you mentioned is also included. In case if your account is setup on a totally new server and any of the pear modules are missing then you can ask our support team to install one you need.

Shoutcast streaming wont be possible on any of our shared plans. You will need to consider a dedicated server for shoutcast.

Thanks,

I'm a web developer and I have lots of little website hostings/projects/web applications etc.
Obviously I don't want a seperate hosting account for each thing - I'd rather have 1 account that fulfills all of my hosting needs. I would like to host everything in 1 place (but different domain names).

Also I like as much control over the server environment as possible but I think a dedicated server would be overkill (and too expensive).

VPS Hosting sounds interesting but I may be able to get by with just a reseller plan.

What kind of hosting solution would you recommend?

Our Standard Reseller plan should be sufficient for you. I don't think that you will need more than 7 GB space for all your website hostings so signup for Standard Reseller plan. You can directly proceed from http://www.eukhost.com/resellers.php

Hi,

I think a Shared account may actually be enough to start with but I have another question.

Would I be able to use SmartFoxServer (www. smartfoxserver.com/overview.php) software on my webspace?

It's a TCP socket server written in Java (no JRE required on Linux).

If I could not install it myself, could I get eukhost to install it for me? Or would I need a VPS Hosting / dedicated server to use it?

Thanks,

This software needs additional ports opened which wont be possible on a Shared server. You will need to consider a VPS Hosting for this requirement as we open ports only for trusted softwares on our shared servers.
