One other thing to take into account when moving is the version of MySql that your database (phpbb) is currently running on the private server.
If it's on MySql 4 and you move to Eukhost which is generally MySql5 then there are some more steps than simply restoring your database. This is detailed, along with the fix, here

It looks worse than it is honestly.

Best thing is to migrate across then try making a post - if you get that long horrible error then you just need to run that mysql_upgrader script and whatever it tells you to do is what you do against the database - i'm sure that Eukhost would be more than happy to do this for you as part of the migration - took me about 10 minutes to run on mine.

hi again,

your all gunna get fed up with me lol

this is like venturing out into the unknown! i am going to take what i have found out and discuss it with my partner. there are two of us who run our site, and neither of us know much about computers or private servers!
yes i know what you are all saying... why the hell did you set up a website ???? but we started with a simple msn groups web site hosting (everything is set up for you), and it has just kind of gone from there.

thanks so much for all your replies, help and advice.

vicky

Don't panic too much about the migration things. Support may be able to help with the conversion. So don't worry too much!

Default Sample sites?

Hi

Could anyone suggest a few sites for me to look at and tell me "This web site hosting is a £29.99 site" and "This web site hosting is a £123.00 site." That is the sort of thing I need to give me an idea what I can do with which package.

Sorry to be thick, but not everyone is a computer buff and all of the suggested help sites I see are not written for numpties like me in mind, they make me even more confused.

Cheers
Homer

Hi,
Do you have any favorite sites, then we could have a look and evaluate them?

haha. Thats not how you differentiate. Some customers hardly get 500 visitors a day but their website hosting generates over £1000 per day, so they consider higher plan as they can consider to pay more for hosting. Some customers get over 3000 visitors daily but they stick to Gold plan worth £54.99 per year as they wish to keep their expenses low.

We can host UK Web Hosting - Cheap Windows Linux cPanel Shared Reseller Web Hosting in UK on Platinum plan as well as our bandwidth usage and space used is below what comes with the Platinum plan, but we host our main website on a high specification private server as our income from our website is many times more than what it costs to maintain a private server

I don't want to make money......................

I want to provide an information website hosting for local historians and family historians, not 100% like these, but something along these lines.

www DOT trytel.com/~tristan/towns/lynn1 DOT html

www DOT thornburypump.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/KingsLynn/index DOT html

www DOT norfolkbottles DOT com/index.htm

Then, a link to a forum.

Thanks

Homer

One of the sites I used to host on the cheapest plan is here: www.cccbc.org.uk. It's not hosted there any more as it's now on my VPS Hosting but it was fine on the bronze plan on linux shared.
