Default reseller to vps???

Hi all

I currently have a basic reseller package based in the states.

I am interested in upgrading to your W-VPS-01 but have a few questions.

1. is there much of a learning curve?

2. does it offer everything that your reseller package offers?

3. one of the primary reasons for wanting to move is that i would like the option of using server software such as pspell on a simple machines forum based site (not allowed on my US acc). The site will probably never be particularly busy, will the ram be sufficient?

4. How much do you charge for ssl? if i have one retrospectively added in the future will another ip address be required?

5. Where can I find extra bandwidth etc costs?

Thanks in advance

I upgraded from a reseller to a VPS earlier this year - admittedly this was on the Linux side not windows. The learning curve wasn't steep at all, and VPS support have helped greatly when it got a bit uphill. The advantages (for me) are more space and bandwidth - being able to create packages with unlimited space/bandwidth (no more juggling resources at the end of each month) - having more control over the software running (eg I wanted php5 and with the vps it was done quickly and simply, with a reseller it meant a server move with all the hassle that entails). I have ssl for one of my sites and the charge is the same as it was for having it on the reseller (£39 or so I think - someone from EUK will know the exact figure), it uses one of the 2 ip addresses you get with the VPS.

Hope this helps you decide

I have answered all your questions as following :-

1. is there much of a learning curve?
Ans :- Our Support Staff will help you in every possible way to get started and initially you won't think of looking at complicated options available within WHM. People go on expanding their vision of available features with time and you can do the same.

2. does it offer everything that your reseller package offers?
Ans :- Yes. VPS with cpanel control panel offers everything that is included within a cpanel reseller hosting plan. infact, you get more features with the VPS as WHM available with VPS is that of a Dedicated Server with all features similar to those in WHM on a Dedicated Server.

3. one of the primary reasons for wanting to move is that i would like the option of using server software such as pspell on a simple machines forum based site (not allowed on my US acc). The site will probably never be particularly busy, will the ram be sufficient?
Ans :- There should not be any problem in getting pspell installed on your VPS. As your website traffic is normal so you won't face any problem with RAM allocations.

4. How much do you charge for ssl? if i have one retrospectively added in the future will another ip address be required?
Ans :- You get 2 IPs with a VPS,, so you can use secondary IP for SSL. If you need more IPs in future then it will cost £2 per IP per month. We sell SSL certificates for £39 per year with no additional costs for installation.

5. Where can I find extra bandwidth etc costs?
Ans :- You will need to upgrade to next higher plan if reach bandwidth limits on your VPS plan. We don't offer additional bandwidth as the cost per GB bandwidth will be more expensive than upgrading to next higher plan.

great.

thanks to both of you for your help. Guess I am sold.

Other than cost, I am also impressed by the quality of this support forum.

As an aside, if i were to keep my US acc as well- would it be possible to have some kind of round robin name server set up with sites being mirrored in the event of one falling over

Cheers

I would think that's possible but with a forum it could be more complicated...

Regarding SSL, you can purchase an IP from eUKhost and get an SSL certificate from elsewhere if you prefer.

This won't be possible incase of shared hosting. Mirroring is quite difficult for websites with dynamic data. You will have more problems if you try mirroring solution for such requirements.

You may be able to set up a page which appears and says "This site is currently down etc." but mirroring of databases is problematic.

hmnnn...

from what i have read so fr it seems that you are right.

A little beyond my ken but it seems that to use wget and database replication would require (at a minimum) vps accs (ie root access) at both ends

Will sign up next week never the less
