Default Semi Dedicated questions

Hi

I currently have a VPS with eukhost which I'm more than happy with.

Next month I'll be requiring something with a little more power and currently I'm eyeing up with starting with a linux semi-dedicated to kick off with (upgrading to a dedicated when needed).

I have a few questions :

1) On the Linux semi-dedicated package is there a limit to the size of a MySQL database? if so, what is the maximum size?

2) As a rough basic estimate how many users could a linux semi dedicated handle at the same time with each page requiring MySQL (approx 3-5 table calls per page) and each page serving approx 20 small images (static constant images belonging to each page) at less than 8kb and up to 3 images (dynamic and different per page) around the 60kb size. I know this will be very difficult to give an answer to but I'd like to be happy that it won't buckle easily with a handful of active members.

3) If I need to upgrade to a dedicated server down the line, would I be able to get everything up and running on the dedicated server before the semi is turned off?

4) If the time arises when one dedicated is not enough power, could eukhost help with clustering/load balancing (which ever term you prefer)?

5) Should the time arise when I need option 4 and you have the facilities, would I be able to arrange a face to face (or over the phone) chat to discuss the best options for further growth?

Thanks in advance

Hello Qube,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. Please check the answers for your questions below.

A 1: There is no limit to the size of a MySQL database on the Linux semi dedicated plan.

A 2: Good question We cannot give you a specific answer on that but yes the semi dedicated server package can handle 200-300 active users at a single time or may be more. The load handling of the users on the server depends basically on the nature of activity they perform on the web site. The semi dedicated package is not going to get choked with a handful of active members so it should be fine till things really progress big time.

A 3: Yes you’ll be able to upgrade to a dedicated server quite easily and we will get your dedicated server up and running by migrating all your data before the semi dedicated plan is turned off.

A 4: Yes we do provide clustering/load balancing of the servers. You may also have a look at the setup which we provide for the specified service through the following link: Network Load Balanced Servers - Business Hosting - 100% uptime guarantee

A 5: Yes you may call us whenever you wish to on our UK toll free number – 0808 280 0727 and we'll be glad to assist you.

Feel free to get back to us if you need any clarifications or more details regarding our services.

Best Regards,
Sales & Marketing

Many thanks for the clarifications, that's exactly what I was hoping would be the case

We're not sure how well the site will take off when we start advertising in October/November time so I'm happy that'll we'll be in a place that can easily grow quickly if needed

I'll be getting the linux semi-dedicated around the middle of Sept so I can get it all configured how I want and do some testing
