Default Vat!!

I'm about to upgrade a Windows VPS to a fully loaded semi-dedicated with SQL Server, backups etc..

This is a big investment for me and I'll be using this server to host DB driven applications for my clients.

When I got the VPS back in Dec I queried the fact that eUKhost doesn't appear to be VAT registered ... and was told you were still waiting for your VAT number.

Checking companies house the company has been running since 2005 and from other posts it employs around 60 people .... definately above the VAT registration threshold!! ... and my experience of the VAT people is that they don't take more than a few weeks to process a registration ... not 3 years!

Before I invest in a server and start putting client apps on it can someone tell me what the situation is (I'm no VAT expert) ... my fear is that one morning server and data disappear as eUKHost gets a VAT bill/fine going back 3 years which can't be paid.

I'm sure I have the same respect for Her Majesty's fine tax collectors as everyone else here but this could impact my clients which is something I have to consider..

I'm going to let someone from eUK explain this but I wouldn't be worried about it. This has raised its head recently in another thread and it was shown not to be an issue then.

Thanks guys - I did a quick search on VAT but couldn't find anything .... probably not looking hard enough!

OK .. so appear to be VAT registered which is good (well not good so much as necessary!) .. but invoices don't have VAT on them ... so eUKHost are even more likely to end up with a hefty VAT bill they can't pay!! (don't think they'll get away with asking customers to back pay VAT )

Hi,

It's quite complicated. As you can see, we use ModernBill for our billing system. It's a nice system that allows us to keep track of client signups, their renew dates and even when they have paid invoices (all automated). However, it can't issue a proper VAT invoice and when we showed an example to our accountant he said it's fine for normal accounts but not for paying VAT. We now have to migrate all invoices into another accounting system (an offline system) and these invoices can be sent to you on request.

Our prices already include VAT so there is no chance of any nasty surprises and our offline system keeps a ledger balance of VAT due. There is nothing for you to worry about

Thanks John ... that makes me VERY happy!

Who should I talk to about getting the invoices with VAT breakdown (and can I get copies of invoices previously paid?)

This is going to reduce my bills by 17.5% (ish) as I can claim back the VAT paid!!!!

Hi,

You can contact billing@eukhost.com and they will assign the ticket to me. You can have the invoices for any invoice from Feb 1st 2008.
