Emails
Has something changed on the servers to do with receiving emails?
Up until recently I used to get about 50 emails a day (mainly junk!), but now I receive barely 1 a day. My sister sent me an email this evening, which I still haven't got, and I no longer receive any forum notifications from website hostings.
I do still receive some emails, but I just wonder what other emails I'm not receiving that I should be.

We have recently configured our customized spam protection scripts on all servers which was tested for 15 days on our helpdesk server and one other server.
Results were above our expectations and thats why we implemented same script on all servers. I dont think you will loose any genuine emails due to this configuration but if you think you lost some emails then let me know the email addresses from where those emails were sent and I will go through the logs.
Better option would be to open a ticket from our helpdesk : http://support.eukhost.com and provide me with the ticket number.

Hello Wayne,
Our system admins are trying to collect more information from maillogs and your email account was under monitoring from last few days.
I will ask our senior system admin to update the ticket once and provide a status update.

I assume my email account is still being monitored as there is still no update to my ticket.
I have just noticed something that I think is strange. My main email address is wayne@mydomain.com and if I check my emails via MEWebmail, log out, then straight back in to MEWebmail the few emails that where there are not there anymore!! I didn't press delete, or even view the emails! Just simply logged in, out, and back in again!!
Aaaaarrrggghhhh!!!

I think one set of spammers must have been shutdown as I've noticed a reduction in spam both at work and at home.

Our windows system admins could not see anything unusual with your email account as no other customer has any problem on same server and email service is also working fine resulting in tough situation for our windows system admins.
We are not able to find any logs of bounced messages and test mails sent from our end are reaching your inbox which is making things quite complicated. If you can download your emails, delete the inbox and recreate it then hopefully you could see something different but as of now there's nothing wrong with your mailbox.

It certainly is odd!
Anyway, today I went to download my emails with outlook as I normally would, but I now get the error:
Reported error (0x8004210 : Outlook is unable to connect to you incoming (POP3) e-mail server.
I checked the settings and they all appeared to be correct.
In the end I just checked my email via MEWebmail instead, then deleted my mailbox and recreated it, so we will see what happens with regards to receiving my emails now!
I still can't download my emails via outlook though... This has never been a problem before!

Maybe mails from those IP listed in DNS/ORBLs gets to nowhere(blackhole), without sending any intimation to the sender. This probably would also not show in logs, though I'm not sure on this part.
Just to test, lowering the spam-result value for this particular using could suggest.
Do we use SPF records at EUKHost? It helps a lot.

We dont have any RBL listing included in our mail server configuration but spf records are good to prevent spoofing from our server.
What you you do if someone sends emails from other networks showing your email address as the sender ?

Hi,
Using SPF records they cannot send mails as "you"; they cannot spoof addresses. For example, If a domain owner sets mail.eukhost.com as their legitimate mailserver, then the mail recipient's server (most mail programs these days) will not accept mail from other servers. Which means, I cannot send mail as someone@ eukhost.com from "MY SERVER" anywhere in the world. See openspf.org for more information.

We have spf records setup on mail.eukhost.com as well as eukhost.com but that is not sufficient to stop spoofing from other networks or machines.
I can send you an email using script from one of our server to prove my statement. I am not trying to say that you are wrong but why would a spammer keep spf authentication On on his spamming server ?

Hi,
No, I'm not saying I'm right either. Just sharing knowledge. And i'm not an expert btw.
But still, as far as I understand the concept, the POP server (your receiving MTA) should not accept mail from servers which are not listed in SPF record of the domain, regardless of how the spammer had configured his outgoing mail server.
Currently, IPs other than MX IPs are allowed to be entered as send mail IPs which is why something like paypal mails occur but this maybe completely stopped in future.
MS has a graphic that illustrates:

Just looked, your SPF record is better than Paypal's!
They do not include IP4 records so hostname maybe spoofed.
