Default How eUKHosts works ?

Hi all,
I'm trying to explain to a computer newbie how firms like eUK make your money ?
In laymans terms as I understand it you have a load of Hard Drives [servers] which are partioned to allow x accounts per HD.
If the HD set up is for say 50 accounts you will have 60 because not all accounts will want 100% of the HD 100% of the time.
You then have some HD's that can be used by 1 account who wants to sub-let as it were [dedicated].
Am I anything like close to the truth ?
Thanks,
Jon

PS. Happy New Year to all !

Hello.

eUKhost ensure that they will not exceed the restriction of accounts on the server.

If 100 accounts are allowed on the server, then only 100 accounts will be created, and no more.

If eUKhost were to create more than the allocated space, customers wouldn't be guaranteed their space, and certain U.K. legislation would be violated - but eUKhost will always ensure that restrictions aren't exceeded.

Hello Jon,

Our Shared Hosting Servers have 2x250 GB drives and we setup more than 200 - 300 accounts on each shared server. You are right in assuming that the disk space sold is virtual as sold space is above 500 GB while the server has only 250GB usable space.

Average used HDD space on all our shared hosting servers is below 40% so we have options open to raise Quota on our existing plans to make our web hosting plans more popular but we wont consider this option as of now as more space given to customers makes them store all unwanted things on the server and it becomes difficult to restore backup of server within short span of time incase of server problems.

Let me know if you need any other information. There are many other things that contribute in successful operation of eUKhost

Hi Thomas and Mark,
Thanks for taking the time to explain to me, it's much clearer now how you operate.
Mark, you mention about "server problems", what are some of the more common problems that occur ?
I know the obvious ones like hardware failure but what about the others ?
It's not an urgent question so please don't rush to answer, enjoy your holidays.
Thanks again,
Jon

Some common problems most web hosts face are software problems - whether that be OS level or higher up; DDos - denial of service attack, these are where certain ports of a server are flooded with requests which can crash the service concerned; spammers - some clients can have unsecure scripts on their website hostings which spammers can take advantage of; hackers - if a host's firewall is flimsy then a hacker can easily gain access to the server (as I've experienced today).
