Default IRC Servers

I was wondering if EUKHost offer any IRC services. I would like to either have an IRC server on my current server i'm hosted on or setup a subdomain pointed to another server. If EUKHost don't offer IRC services, does anybody know of another privider (Just for IRC) that I can point a subdomain to?

Thanks

Can you let us know the purpose of using IRC channel ?

We dont offer IRC services on our shared servers or dedicated servers but we can work out something for you on a separate server if you make your intentions clear for having IRC service.

Well i've used a php chat, but it's not really up for the job. I need a server that can have multiple channels just for a place to chat for users on my website hosting. If you could set one up for me that would be really great.

Our CRO already tried IRC service in our internal network as well as one of our reserved servers but IRC brings huge load on servers and its not recommended to use IRC channels on servers below Dual Xeon 3.0 GHZ and 4 GB RAM.

I dont think its worth to spend so much for IRC channel as a live chat software like CCS ( clickchatsold.com ) is much better.

I would be using it for multi-user chat, general discussion etc. I've already made a ticket system, and programmed 3 seperate forums within my website hosting - but everyone would like to see a IRC server.

IRC has to be setup on your separate dedicated server and there wont be any way to run a IRC channel on any of our shared or VPS Hosting plans.

As I mentioned earlier you will need to consider costs of a dedicated server if you really need IRC for your visitors and members.

I am not expert in these matter, which is why Im asking this question. How come IRC requires such powerful machines? I remember using IRC many years ago when those specs were just a twinkle in the PC manufacturers eyes.

IRC service is CPU intensive and it keeps on overloading the server when you have many people connected at a time. Servers running IRC service loose their efficiency as IRC keeps on overloading the CPU.

How come this is so, when machines are more powerful nowadays? I mean, how did the servers of the past keep up?

When you run IRC service you cannot restrict it from being accessible for others on the web. One of our friend uses MIRC for internal communication but they have implemented security measures to ensure that no one from outside world can abuse it.

I wont be able to explain the difference between IRC and MIRC but both have major difference in functioning.

I thought MIRC was just an IRC client.

I personally don't know whats the actual difference but MIRC is considered to be legal and IRC is not.

Let me grab some more information from our technical people.
