Default Python?

Is Python available on Linux cPanel hosting? It's not mentioned on the feature page but I found this blog post that's tagged with "cPanel Hosting". If it's available what are the details?

If it's not available I take it I couldn't just install it locally to my account (I notice I have a /bin dir in my home directory, but I'm a bit hazy on how this all works)?

Thanks.

Hi Pike.

Welcome to the forums...

To check if you have python installed, type "python" into SSH when logged in as root.

This'll give you the version number (if it installed at all). If you see a version number, you'll need to press Cntrl + z to exit the python interface. If you do not see a version number, and see something like the lines of "Bash: Command not found" - then it's not installed. To get it installed, you can contact the support team.

Hi Tom. Unfortunately it looks like I don't have SSH access with my account package, I get "connection refused".

Python is supported on most of our cpanel servers. You will need to communicate with one of our support staff members from eUKhost Helpdesk :: Shared Reseller VPS Hosting Dedicated Server Hosting Support and ask them to check if Python is enabled on your server.

Hello Pike,

I have replied to your ticket regarding the python.

You need upload all your python scripts under cgi-bin directory and those python script must have permissions as 755.
Also, the version of python installed on our shared server is Python 2.4.3.
