Default Whats the point with multiple IP's

Hi,

I am sure this has an obvious answer, but what is the point of having multiple IP's. I have a reseller package with only 1 IP and have setup multiple domains on it for myself and my customers and they all run fine.

So what are the benefits of having two domains on seperate IP's?

As I said, I am sure this is obvious and I think I already know the answer, but I just want to clarify things.

Thanks for your help
Morledge

Mutiple IP's are useful is corporate enrvironments only really. They are only really used if 1 IP address starts getting a DOS attack, so if that happens, take down that IP, and change to another. Usually most host machines have 2-3 IP's, for example eUKhost VPS Hosting come with a minimum of 2 IPs.

Dedicated IP is essential for Dedicated SSL certificates. Without dedicated IP one cannot install SSL certificate.

VPS Hosting and dedicated servers needs minimum 2 dedicated IP addresses if you think of hosting website hostings on them. If you wish to run some applications only then 1 dedicated IP is sufficient.

Just so we are clear, if I wanted to give a customer a website hosting using SSL on there domain then I would need to provide them a seperate IP for their domain.

Yes your customer will need a Dedicated IP to use SSL on his website hosting. You will get the dedicated IP free with dedicated SSL if you purchase the certificate from us.

That's rather interesting actually. I wasn't aware of most of the facts stated here, but can now see the benefit of multiple IPs.

Do dedicated IP addresses have any other benefits/downfalls? I can't personally think of any other reason for using one, except maybe personal preference, but I'm sure that there are other uses.

Some customers prefer to run their website hosting on dedicated IP address and they get reverse DNS setup which points back to their domain name. It looks more professional on higher level and traceroute to the IP of website hosting reports the domain name itself which makes big difference to techies.

rDNS is also useful for sending emails to email addresses on networks with high security measures as in some networks emails are rejected if the IP address of sending domains points to some other domain.
