Windows Plesk or Hosting Controller
Hi,
I have raised a support ticket asking for additional IP's but I have been told they cannot do this as the server I am on does not have any free.
They have advised me that they can move me onto another server which has the Plesk Controller rather than the Windows Hosting Controller that I am currently using.
First off, is Plesk still hosted on a windows IIS Web Server? I thought it was for Linux and Apache.
Second, If Plesk does run on windows then, which would people recommend for a reseller, Plesk or WHC?
Thanks

Plesk works on Windows and Linux servers.
I would say control panel choice is more personal preference.

Plesk has Windows version as well and 2 best control panels for windows are plesk and hostingcontroller only. I personally don't differentiate much between both as my relations with swsoft and hostingcontroller are quite good and its not my job to differentiate between features.
Only thing where plesk has upper hand is documentation and available help on forums and various website hostings. HostingController has less documentation so troubleshooting HC problems needs qualified windows system admins. We have problems with IPs in 87.117.234.0/24 subnet but if you can wait for few days then we can arrange an IP for you as we are planning to move some servers from this subnet to new subnets.

Which one has the most features? in WHC I can add ecommerce, blogs, forum, MS SQL, mySQL, .Net 2.0, WebDataAdmin + others
Does Plesk offer the same.
Also, is plesk more stable then WHC? I have experienced alot of problems with WHC (cant get into it now), I know eUKHost are currently in the middle of an upgrade of the server but it has never been that stable.
Sorry for so many questions I am just a little worried about the change to a new control panel, as I have promised my customers certain features and I need to manage the expectations.
Thanks

Plesk has many features like that as well if you have the power pack installed, so you can add + remove MySQL Server + MSSQL Server databases etc etc It also has the 'application vault' which has many open source programs such as Mambo.

We have powerpack installed on our new plesk windows servers. We are in touch with support team of HostingController and they are helping us with migration of the server on new server. I cannot explain how many problems we are facing in this process but I am expecting everything to get sorted by tomorrow and hopefully we will have stable HC servers.
So far Plesk servers had no problems.

Well, I have decided to bite the bullet and transfer to plesk (to be honest I had no choice as I needed the additional IP addresses) . After an initial look it seems a little more complicated then WHC but I think that is just because it has more features.
I am struggling to figure out how to setup as a reseller so that my clients can have access. In WHC I would create the user first then create the domains and assign them to that user. From what I can tell at the moment, with Plesk you create the domain then create a user under that domain. Does that mean each domain has to have a unique login? I have a client with 10+ domains, I cant expect him to have 10 usernames and passwords.
Same thing with FTP I only want one username and password to access all his FTP's?
Any guidence would be much appreciated.
One final thing for the eUKHost guys. I have been told that I have until monday to transfer everything over as they will remove my old account. I feel under a little pressure now as I have never used plesk before and come on, it is the weekend, we all dont work 24/7
Thanks

Scratch that, they have put me on a US server and that is the last thing I want. Not exactly Search Engine Optimization friendly for UK website hostings.
Oh well, we will have to see what they come up with now. Lets just hope they dont remove my account on Monday still.

We have plesk server in UK as well so update the ticket and ask the guys to move your account on 87.117.238.85
I am not sure why they moved it on a US server when we are moving those old servers in UK one by one.

Yeah, I was a bit shocked when I realised. Possibly could be because I told them I would be looking to purchase 10+ additional IP addresses, asthe reason this all started was because the server I was on (87.117.234.246) did not have any spare for me to purchase.
Anyway, I have updated them via email. So lets hope something comes of it. My emails have been coming from billng@eukhost.com, do they work weekends? If not should I forward it to support@eukhost.com?
Thanks

All our departments are 24x7. Initial work will be performed by the billing department and then the ticket will get moved to support department for migration.

Not heard anything on this since Friday, I know your all busy but is there any chance of getting an update, as I need to have everything 100% by 1st May. If I am going to have to change Control Panel then I need some time to get to grips with it.
Ticket No: #BVW-92728-343
Cheers

Update on this, in the end I upgraded to a VPS Hosting with Plesk. I do think Plesk is a better Control Panel but I think Windows Hosting Controller is easier to use.
Thanks for everyones comments.

I've never used WHC, but I have to agree, Plesk is quite hard for a client to use, but the interface is very nice.

Pesonally i prefer Plesk to Hosting Controller. I think Plesk is more popular anyway and HC should be scrapped :P

Oh, so Plesk is what's used on Windows and Linux and HC is used on where again? Is that what the control panels are? Because it does sound like it.

Linux uses cPanel at euk, however it is possible to run Plesk on Linux as well as windows.
Hosting Controller is used on Windows Servers
