Default eUKhost's FREE 25GB Offsite Backup

All eUKhost Dedicated servers come with a free 25GB Offsite Backup. Now Im currently using 45GB Diskspace on my Linux Dedicated Server, so I needed to have an extra 25GB. When I put in for the server I just thought itd be an extra £1 or £2 more for an extra 25GB. Its only after buying the server I was told it would cost £10 extra for an additional 25GB diskspace. But that is quite pricey.

As BQ Internet is highly recommended at webhostingtalk.com and is much cheaper I decided to get my Offsite backup from them instead, which cost me £12 for 100GB.

It was either pay eUKhost £10 for 50GB Offsite backup (as 25gb is already included) or pay BQ Internet £12 and get 100GB Offsite backup.

Now I have a free 25GB Offsite backup with my server thats not even being used, which is worth £10. As Im not even using it I should have £10 knocked of total cost of the server instead. Well that is what I would prefer anyway. You actually have to request for the Offsite backup to be installed.

I think you should get rid of the free Offsite backup deal and instead take money of the total server cost, as not everyone will want an Offsite backup with eUKhost. Many would much prefer £10 knocked of total server cost, especially as other companies provide quality Offsite backup for much cheaper price. If customers need Offsite backup with eUKhost they could just put in for it. It shouldnt be part of the deal.

Its things like this that makes customers look elsewhere!

Point is, is if I wanted to have 25gb Offsite diskspace with you it would cost me £10/month. As I dont need the free 25GB Offsite backup, why not knock £10 of the total cost of the server instead?

Apart from this Im happy with Server/Network/Support.

My 2cent,
Chris

Hi Chris,

The 25 GB offsite backup space we offer with each dedicated server is completely free. Cost of dedicated server does not include any charge for 25 GB backup space. We only charge fees for additional backup space if in case a client needs more than 25 GB space.

We won't be able to reduce the cost of the server by £10 by removing the free backup space however we can offer you additional backup space at a discounted price.

Let us know what you think.

I think there is one downside of using external backup service provider - you pay in terms of bandwidth for transferring your backups. I believe bandwidth allocation is not affected if you are using eUKhost product? Not sure if this would offset the saving you make when purchasing the backup elsewhere?

Bandwidth we offer is unlimited on all our backup plans i.e you can upload and download files of any size. If you consider external backup space, server's bandwidth will be counted when you upload or download file from the server.

You also get No Data Transfer limits with the company I mentioned above:

If you can offer me the same deal as other company or at least match near to it then of course I will use eUKhost backups instead. I would much prefer to use eUKhost as the backups will be made on UK servers. I could restore a backup from eUKhost's UK backup servers much quicker than I could from BQ Internet's US servers.

I just think you could get a lot more customers if you reduced the Offsite diskspace charges a little. You can definitely do it.

I will be sure to check Offsite diskspace charges in future when recommending servers to others etc.

If you can offer same deal as other company or at least match near to it please me PM ME.

Thanks,
Chris

The point though is that you will use up your bandwidth allocation from eUKhost to transfer the data from your server to the company that hosts your backup. The bandwidth might not be metered at the backup server's end but it will be metered at the point where your data leaves eUKhost network. No?

(Not trying to get you to purchase eUKhost solution here... just trying to understand if it is really cheaper to get backup solution elsewhere as I will soon need to get one too).

That wouldn't be a problem as I have 3000GB of bandwidth and am only using 230-300GB a month. So that leaves around 2700GB of bandwidth not even being used. Don't get me started on bandwidth hahaha 2000GB Bandwidth = £50

400GB Bandwidth would be more than enough for my sites atm

Can I not have 2000GB knocked off and save £50 for that as well? lol

We offer free backup space with each dedicated server to save your Business if in case your server goes down and data gets lost due to unfortunate HDD failure.

I have seen customers loosing ££££'s due to data loss and we feel disgraced when we loose customers due to such problems.

you are most welcome to message me if you need special deals on new servers.

Erm, if you aren't using all that much disk space and bandwidth, why not go with a VPS? Or, if that isn't enough, a semi-dedicated?

Just curious is all...

VPS/Semi-Dedicated Server isn't enough. I need the power/resources of a Dedicated Server to run CentovaCast and a couple of game servers. I just don't need all the extra bandwidth that comes with the server. The HDD is ok. I could really do with bringing the bandwidth down from 3000GB to 1000GB though. Would save about £50 or so then. I asked in sales chat and they said each Dedicated Server comes with 3000GB by default and that they wouldn't reduce it. I think the price for Offsite backups is a little pricey too.

I will keep searching. xD

I would imagine the way that Eukhost price their servers is not quite as you think, I would image they work out the bandwidth much the same way as we all do sell hosting accounts in that you might give 10gb data a month to all accounts, but how many actully will use that ?, so your total price structure takes that into account, or else all your accounts would have to be sold for much more.

As for the backup,
There is always a cheaper deal somewhere whoever you are with, but is cheap always best.
I would always use a Eukhost backup account to backup an Eukhost server as I would hope that they have ensured the data link between the servers and the backup location is very good.
When talking about valueble data (your customers) I think a few quid here and there is well spent to ensure it is there, even if you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Regards

Chris

The bandwidth is ok. It will just take a while to resell a lot of it is all.

Could do with a better deal on the Offsite backup though. But that isn't going to happen so I will use other company instead.

Regards,
Chris
